Returned after 5 years--the place looks amazing!
So I lived in Vallarta for 10+ years and Barcelona Tapas had also been a favorite of mine despite the 4-story climb--it was always worth it once you arrived to the panoramic top floor dining level boasting staggering views of the Banderas Bay.
Fast forward five years later, and Bill Carballo (Chef Owner) has completely transformed the entire space to include: a modern elevator, added another upper level with an insane Bose sound system with amazing ocean views, a beautiful wine cellar--this place is first class.
He is serving dinner, and he has taken all the proper precautions: hand-washing station when you arrive, antibacterial gel, all staff wearing masks, tables spaced appropriately--the place is spotless. We felt very comfortable dining there amid the virus insanity.
Bill greeted us warmly sporting a blue mask, and we picked up where we left off 5 years before. We ordered Garlic Mushrooms, Eggplant, Grilled Calamari and for the main we had the Seafood Fideua--Paella with Pasta with Shrimp, Calamari, Octopus--insanely good. We finished with the Braised Short Rib which was so tender i used just my fork.
Barcelona Tapas is a Vallarta institution, and it's a must on your visit to Vallarta.
